MyJustice works with a wide range of government and civil society partners. These include:
Yangon Justice Centre (YJC): YJC provides legal advice, assistance, and representation in criminal matters and some civil matters for the poor and vulnerable. In addition to funding, MyJustice provides periodic capacity-building support, including data collection, organizational development, performance management, and legal skills development. YJC has provided crucial legal support to more than 4,467 community members and their families in 17 townships in Yangon Region since MyJustice began support in September 2015.
Mawlamyaing Justice Centre (MJC): MJC provides legal advice, assistance, and representation in criminal matters for the poor and vulnerable, while helping to raise people’s understanding of their legal rights and obligations. In addition to funding, MyJustice provides periodic capacity-building support, including data collection, organizational development, performance management, and legal skills development. Since MyJustice began support in September 2015, MJC has provided legal advice and representation to more than 3,946 community members and their families in 7 townships in Mon State.
University Legal Clinic (ULC): The ULC aims to improve law students’ understanding of the justice system and the role of legal aid. The ULC works closely with all four law departments in Yangon Region to deliver events – including moot court and mock trial demonstrations, court visits, and guest lectures – intended to raise understanding among law faculty and students.
Union Attorney General’s Office: MyJustice works within the Union Government to share our programmatic expertise and research to improve access to justice policy. The Union Attorney General’s office (UAGO) is the lead justice agency in the executive branch. The Attorney General of the Union also chairs the Coordination Body on Rule of Law Centres and Justice Sector Issues. MyJustice provides in-depth English training courses to Union Attorney General’s Office staff members. More than 30 participants have improved their English skills, and thus their abilities to engage in English-language Myanmar legal codes.
Civil Society Organizations: Following a competitive grant process, MyJustice launched partnerships with 12 civil society organizations working to expand access to justice across Mon State and Yangon Region in early 2017. These partners will work with a further 11 smaller CSO partners in the delivery of projects that will:
- Work in 95 communities in 25 townships in Mon and Yangon
- Reach almost 50,000 people through awareness raising activity
- Identify and train over 400 community paralegals and cascade training to over 150 more
- Establish over 20 community support groups
- Distribute over 30,000 information communication products on Access to Justice
- Reach over 1,500 influencers through direct advocacy
- Provide direct legal representation to a minimum of 165 people
- Pilot new forms of community dispute resolution
